What began as a vocabulary building activity led to the creation of an imaginary restaurant!
Imagination is more important than knowledge. For knowledge is limited to all we now know and understand, while imagination embraces the entire world, and all there ever will be to know and understand. - Albert Einstein
Exploring new words using a dictionary, is how many of us learn new words. But often when the book is way too interesting, it is so hard to keep the book down and reach out for a dictionary. It becomes a lot easier to decipher from the context and move on. Dear reader, how often have you done just that?
While that might be thrilling to do, learning the meanings of a given set of words for an exam, that's just the opposite. How about taking inspiration from the decipher technique and take it a step further?
That's exactly what we set out to do at the Young Readers' Club.
We brainstormed and created an exhaustive list of words that can be used in a restaurant. The subject being very familiar, every reader had been to a restaurant sometime or the other, drew every child to the table to add their contributions. One thing led to another and readers were finding synonyms for certain words, trying their knowledge of French even.
In the process the readers thought hard about the behind the scenes in a restaurant and could list occupations too! We had to search a bit to find the right terminologies. But it was totally worth it!
One reader even suggested calling the place, "Readers' Cuisine!" What kind of food will this place serve? Dear reader that's left to your imagination! :)
